Course Options

Your knowledge doesn’t limit you to one type of order picker forklift. Once you have completed this course you will be able to operate an order picker forklift.

Course Duration

Course duration for each applicant will be determined by the operating ability of the applicant. It is recommended that each application start with a full or group-based training day. At the conclusion of this training the assessor will determine the applicant’s skill level and their ability to successfully complete an assessment.

Further training via any of the training options will be recommended until the applicant’s skills are at a level that meets the national unit of competency and national licensing standards.

Entry Requirements

An order picker licence can be be obtained by anyone that is over 18 years old. To obtain an order picker licence you must have proof of age and photo identification. If you do not meet this requirement, you will need to meet this prior to making your application.

While it is not necessary to perform any heavy lifting in the licensing course, anyone considering a career in transport should be aware that most roles for order picker operators do require an amount of heavy lifting. While this may not be an impediment to completing the training, it may impact the participant’s ability to obtain suitable employment at the conclusion of the training. Prospective students should also consider the physical limitations of the machine prior to enrolling. Should you wish to discuss this, please contact your nearest TIDE Training office.

Students need to demonstrate that they are proficient in the use of conversational English and will be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to being admitted to the course.

Prior to completing the order picker training course, it is a requirement that the applicant provide TIDE Training with a Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is a personal identifier that is used to trace all training for an individual. Further information about the USI can be found on the “Students” section of the USI Website..

Once we can verify the applicant’s USI, all future training that is completed with us will be added to the applicant’s USI transcript. If a valid USI is not presented prior to the completion of the applicants training, the training records will not be added to the applicants USI transcript. Where an applicant believes they do not require a USI as per the USI exemption rules, the relevant evidence for the exemption must be presented at the time of enrolment.

Students must wear enclosed footwear during their course (thongs or sandals will not be acceptable)

Eligibility

To be eligible to enrol you must meet all the following requirements:

• Complete enrolment paperwork in full
• A Unique Student Identifier (USI)
• Communication skills at a level to effectively communicate with others
• Paid all appropriate fees
• Undertake a site induction and have the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Meet the minimum time period: over 18 years old
• Has satisfied evidence of photo identity requirements
• Has satisfied evidence of proof of residence

Delivery Modes

All order picker training is undertaken in a classroom environment (both theory and practical). All practical training must be undertaken on the warehouse environment. Theory training such will be undertaken in an enclosed area so the applicant can comfortably learn the required skills. All assessments can be completed at a TIDE registered office or at a workplace that meets the required areas for assessments. Please speak to our office to confirm if your workplace meets these requirements.

To obtain an Order Picker Forklift Licence you will need to complete and be marked competent in each of the below criteria:

• Pre Training eLearning
• Authority Knowledge Test
• Pre-Operational Order Picker Inspection
• Load Shifting Practical Demonstration
• Calculations

Note: The licensing authority’s knowledge test must be completed prior to any on practical assessments being undertaken.

TLILIC2002 – Licence to operate an order picker forklift truck does not attract Federal or State government funding and is eligible only as a “Fee for Service” program. Enrollment in this program may impact eligibility for future funding.

What jobs or occupations will require me to have Order Picker training or experience?

A number of occupations or job roles find Order Picker training to be valuable. The main occupations / jobs roles are:

Training Location

What rights does the applicant have when attending a Order Picker training course?

Each applicant has the right to learn in a comfortable and non-threatening environment. Each course will provide a trainer that is skilled and proficient in the operation of an Order Picker Forklift Truck. If the course does not meet these expectations, the applicant has the right to make a complaint by using the TIDE Training complaints process.

The applicant also has the right to access their training records at any time. These records can be view by arranging an appointment with the respective site management. These records cannot leave the respective site.

The RTO has an obligation to provide the applicant with training and assessment that is of a high quality and that complies with the Standards for RTOs 2015. If the RTO is unable to provide the training, the training will be rescheduled or a pro-rata refund will be arranged in accordance with our “Fee and Refund Policy”. The RTO also has an obligation to provide the applicant with certification documentation that complies with the standards within 30 days of completion of the training, providing all fees have been paid. In the event your certification documentation is lost or destroyed, you can request a duplicate be issued (refer to our Course Fees page) or you can get access to the records of certification via the USI Portal.

All records and information for each applicant will be stored in a secure manner (both physically and electronically) as defined by the national privacy requirements and TIDE privacy policy.

What obligations does the applicant have when attending a Order Picker training course?

Each applicant has the obligation to make sure:

• All information provided meets with the national training reporting guidelines including providing a Unique Student Identified (USI).
• As per our Fee and Refund Policy, payment of a 50% deposit (full payment is preferred) for each session must be made at the time of the booking or before any learning material can be sent out. Session training dates are not confirmed until a deposit or full payment is made. Non payment may cause your training session to be cancelled without further notice.
• All rules and policies relating to the training are understood and adhered to during their training courses.
• All individuals within the training environment are respected.
• All personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn while undertaking the training course.
• For the protection and comfort of others in the training environment, we recommend the use of the English language where possible. It is permissible to use another language to help explain an important item or where the course is designed to run in a language other than English, however, we require English to be used where possible.

English Language

Pursuant to WorkSafe requirements all training and assessments for ForkLift, Order Picker and Elevating Work Platform licences must be conducted in English. Interpreters cannot be used.
